Cabrillo Host Lions History Cabrillo Host Lions were founded by a group of local business men in 1961 in Aptos, California. Forty Lions and guests attended Charter night at the Aptos Beach Inn. The club was dedicated as a member of Lions International and immediately began serving the community. Meetings were held in local restaurants. Several members saw the need for a community building. The county owned an unused property along Aptos Creek. A committee of Lions proposed to the county that they would build a community meeting there for Seniors, Boy and Girl Scouts, Lions, and other non-profit groups. Club members volunteered for a year to complete the building, which is now supervised by the Parks Department. Lions meet the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome. For their work constructing the building and developing the property, the club was voted Man of the Year. At the dedication the first flag was raised by Lion Victor Aguirre, who was aide to General Douglas Macarthur in the Philippines during the Second World War. The club has three district governors. The Governors of District 4C6 are the late LeRoy Dries, and then the still active in the club-Dick Beaman and Ed Rittue "Our mission is to create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation." - From the official constitution and by-laws of the lions club.
